How do you make quality standards stick?

I care about standards that keep working after I leave the room, so I write them down and put them where the work already happens. That has meant component copy standards, annotated patterns, and taking design through Turnitin's adoption of Shape Up so the process served quality instead of the calendar. Quality has to be a team's first thought, not its last.
